ADVEST SIGNS EXPANDED MULTI-YEAR CONTRACT WITH QUOTRON SYSTEMS FOR
MARKET DATA, BROKER PRODUCTIVITY, AND NETWORK SERVICES
NEW YORK, March 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Quotron Systems, Inc. today announced that Advest, Inc., a retail brokerage firm based in Hartford, Conn., has signed an expanded multi-year contract under the Quotron will provide its Branch Office Services, Broker Support Systems and various network services to Advest, and will continue to provide the Market Data Services it has been providing the firm since 1987. Under the terms of the agreements, Quotron will also provide this range of services to seven Advest offices that previously used financial information services from a Quotron competitor. Quotron is now the single provider of front- office services for all of the firm's 85 offices nationwide.
At Advest, Quotron services are delivered via Quotron 1000 servers to a mix of proprietary Quotron terminals and personal computers on the desktop. Over time, Advest plans to migrate its brokers to Quotron's new industry-standard IBM RS/6000 platform.
"Quotron's existing Quotron 1000 service coupled with the new IBM RS/6000 platform and enhanced network capabilities most closely parallels Advest's own automation strategy," said Chuck Lukas, vice president of communications and strategic systems at Advest. "The agreement will allow us to continue with our current plan of providing every Advest broker and sales assistant with integrated office automation tools, while positioning us to take full advantage of future technology. We feel that adding these services helps us differentiate Advest from the competition by enhancing our ability to provide a higher level of client service."
Among the Quotron Branch Office Services Advest will use are Quotron Work Processor and the Quotron 20-20 Spreadsheet Service. These are full-fledged software applications which can incorporate up-to-the- minute market data and client account information from the Quotron network. Advest brokers and sales assistants will also use the Quotron Broker Support System, an electronic broker's book for maintaining client records and managing portfolios. The Broker Support System prices security holdings in real time via links to Quotron market data. This securities data can then be imported into Quotron Word Processor to create client-specific documents, or into the Quotron 20/20 Spreadsheet where it can used to analyze "what if" scenarios or to compare portfolios against asset allocation models.
In addition to these broker productivity tools, Advest will also take advantage of Quotron's network capabilities to subscribe to third- party services such as Dow Jones News/Retrieval and Standard & Poor's MarketScope and for internal data distribution within the firm. For example, using Quotron's Customer In-House News service, the Advest research department can enter proprietary news stories and research reports into the Quotron network and then distribute this information to brokers' terminals. Advest's proprietary commentary can be commingled with other headlines from the Dow Jones News/Retrieval Service.
Alan Weiss, vice president of sales and marketing at Quotron, says that Advest's expanded contract with Quotron is a good example of the desire firms have for more integrated information services. "To save time and money, securities firms increasingly prefer a single vendor that offers an integrated set of varied services. And they want these services delivered over one network and consolidated on a single desktop screen."
