ADVANSTAR SEEKS NEW OWNER FOR BECKLEY-CARDY
 CLEVELAND, May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Advanstar Communications

announced today that the company will seek new ownership for Beckley- Cardy, a subsidiary headquartered in Duluth, Minn.
Founded in 1907, Beckley-Cardy is the leading national distributor of education equipment and supplies. It has 400 employees and had 1991 revenues of $76.5 million. Beckley-Cardy has been owned by Advanstar and its predecessor companies since 1972.
Richard B. Swank, president and chief executive officer of Advanstar Communications, said, "Beckley-Cardy has been an important contributor to our company's success in recent years and its management and staff have built a strong, well-respected organization.
"We, along with Beckley-Cardy management, believe that the company can achieve its potential more fully if it is allowed to develop independently of Advanstar. This action also will allow Advanstar to focus on its core publishing and exposition businesses." Advanstar, headquartered in Cleveland, publishes 45 business and professional publications and owns and manages 26 expositions for industry and consumers.
Swank said that Advanstar has retained the investment banking firm of Bowles Hollowell Conner & Co., Charlotte, N.C., to assist in the divestiture of the Beckley-Cardy subsidiary.
