This volume consists of the proceedings of a conference held in Sofia, September 1988, under the aegis of the International Institute of Refrigeration. Thc main purpose of the event was to provide a large international forum for presentation and discussion of recent developments and trends in food refrigerated processing, storage, transport, distribution and related refrigerating machines and systems.
The programme was devoted to several important areas of contemporary science and technology, and dealt with the following: principles and methods for providing environmentally friendly refrigeration which does not cause ozone depletion and global warming; recent achievements and innovations in the food cold chain, leading to an improved safety and quality of refrigerated foods and beverages, and the development and application of energy saving and cost-effective refrigeration technologies in industry.
