ADVANCED VISUALIZATION SYSTEMS APPOINTS VICE PRESIDENTS OF
 MARKETING, SALES, BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
WALTHAM, Mass., June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Advanced Visual Systems Inc., a leading developer of visualization software products for scientific, engineering and business professionals and software developers, today bolstered its management team with the addition of two industry executives to head the company's marketing and sales organizations and the establishment of a new group to focus on relationships with key business partners. Ian Reid, a former marketing executive with Prime Computer Inc., Stardent Computer Inc. and Wavefront Technologies Inc., joins AVS as vice president of marketing. Carl Kowalski, a former executive with V.I. Corp. and Vital Images, was appointed vice president of American sales. AVS executive and founder Paul Esdale was named vice president of business development.
These senior management announcements follow the February 1992 appointment of George Brandt, a 25-year industry executive, to the position of president and CEO. Brandt joined AVS from V.I. Corp., where as president he oversaw V.I. Corp.'s growth from initial start-up to an established organization with an installed user base of more than 8,500 systems.
"A solid and experienced management team is as important as leadership products in today's highly competitive marketplace, and Advanced Visual Systems is moving aggressively on both fronts," said Brandt. "Last month we introduced an enhanced version of our AVS software, and now we have further strengthened our management ranks with the addition of Ian Reid and Carl Kowalski and the creation of a business development group headed by Paul Esdale."
As head of the business development group, Esdale will be responsible for developing strategic relationships with major customers, systems and software vendors, and other business partners. He will also be responsible for major customer opportunities and corporate development activities.
A founder of the company, Esdale had served as vice president of marketing and sales for AVS and was director of visualization marketing at Stardent, AVS' former parent company. Prior to joining Stardent, Esdale was vice president of marketing for Kodak Legal Systems and earlier he held a variety of management positions with Apollo Computer Inc. and Prime.
As vice president of marketing for AVS, Reid will be responsible for all AVS marketing activities, including product marketing, market development, marketing communications and technical marketing. Prior to joining AVS, Reid was vice president of marketing at Wavefront Technologies, vice president of visualization marketing at Stardent, and held a variety of product marketing positions at Prime, including director of workstation marketing in the CAD/CAM business.
As vice president of American sales, Kowalski will be responsible for all sales channels throughout North America, including Canada. Prior to joining AVS, Kowalski was vice president of marketing and sales for Vital Images, a developer and marketer of direct volume rendering software for Silicon Graphics and IBM hardware. Previously, Kowalski held a variety of management positions at V.I. Corp., including vice president, marketing, sales and new business development, and managing director of V.I. Europe.
