 ADVANCED TISSUE SCIENCES APPOINTS SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT,
 RESEARCH AND CLINICAL DEVELOPMENT
 LA JOLLA, Calif., May 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Advanced Tissue Sciences Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: ATISA) today announced the appointment of Bernard D. King, M.D. as the senior vice president, Research and Clinical Development, according to Arthur J. Benvenuto, chairman, president and chief executive officer. King has been vice president, Medical and Regulatory Affairs, Worldwide with Convatec, Bristol-Meyers Squibb for the past three years. King also spent three years at Smith Kline and French, where he served as group director, Clinical Investigations.
 "Barney's experience will help us to further strengthen clinical applications of our research and development programs," said Benvenuto. "In addition, his understanding of regulatory requirements worldwide will allow us to expand clinical applications of our engineered tissues to international markets."
 Prior to his tenure at Smith Kline and French, King served as director, Cardiology Training Program and was assistant director, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Westchester County (N.Y.) Medical Center while serving on the faculties of Medicine and Physiology at New York Medical College. Previously, he was chief, internal medicine at USAF Hospital, Rickenbacker (Ohio) Air Force Base. King received his medical degree from Ohio State University and holds specialty certification in both internal medicine and cardiology. He received his master of business administration degree from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
 Advanced Tissue Sciences (formerly Marrow-Tech Inc.) is a tissue engineering company engaged in the growth of human tissues and organs for potential therapeutic and laboratory applications.
