SEATTLE, April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Dennis C. Fill, chairman and chief executive officer of Westmark International Inc. (NASDAQ: WMRK), today announced the appointment of David M. Perozek as president and chief operating officer of Advanced Technology Laboratories Inc. (ATL), Westmark's ultrasound subsidiary.
Subject to shareholder approval, Westmark expects that its subsidiaries, ATL and SpaceLabs, will become independent, publicly traded companies in June.
Perozek's career has spanned all aspects of ultrasound business management and product development during his 17 years with the Medical Products Group of the highly respected Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP). As general manager of HP's ultrasound business, Perozek, 49, is recognized for taking HP to a worldwide leadership position in the cardiology ultrasound market. In addition to his medical electronics experience, Perozek managed the Apollo workstation business during its integration into HP.
"We are delighted to bring on board an industry leader of Dave's caliber who has excellent operational and general management experience and also extensive experience in ultrasound technology," Fill said. "Dave's experience in the diagnostic ultrasound industry and the computer workstation businesses are unique and key to our strategic direction and the direction we believe ultrasound is moving in the 1990s."
As ATL president and chief operating officer, Perozek will report to Fill and be responsible for all aspects of the company's operations, including research and development, marketing, sales and service, manufacturing, human resources and quality. He will also be responsible for the business of Nova MicroSonics which develops and markets offline digital ultrasound analysis systems. Perozek will be nominated to the company's board of directors at the annual general shareholder meeting scheduled for May. As chairman and chief executive officer of Westmark and ATL, Fill will be responsible for strategic planning and corporate financial and legal affairs. Prior to Perozek's appointment, Fill held the position of ATL president.
"I am very pleased to be joining ATL at this time," Perozek said. "The strong management team, together with the company's leadership position in digital ultrasound technology, makes ATL a formidable player in the diagnostic imaging market and provides ATL the opportunity to expand its market position in the years ahead. I have a deep professional and personal commitment to diagnostic ultrasound and believe we are only beginning to tap its potential to make valuable contributions to the practice of medicine."
Perozek served as general manager of HP's ultrasound business from 1980 to 1989. Under his leadership HP developed the phased array and color Doppler imaging technologies that led to HP's preeminent worldwide cardiology market position. Prior to 1980, Perozek held various management positions in research and development in HP's Medical Products Group.
From 1989 to 1991, Perozek served as general manager of HP's Apollo Systems division. In this role he was responsible for aspects of integrating the products and technologies of Apollo Computers into HP's strategic workstation business.
Perozek received both his M.S. and E.E. graduate degrees in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He received his B.S. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Detroit and completed the Stanford Executive Program at Stanford University.
