ADVANCED NMR STARTS DELIVERY OF GE CONTRACT

WILMINGTON, Mass., April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Advanced NMR Systems (NASDAQ: ANMR) today announced the completion of two more installations of its Ultra Fast Echo Planar Imaging (EPI) System, one at Yale University in New Haven, Conn., and the other at Michigan State University (MSU) in Lansing, Mich. MSU purchased its system through General Electric Medical Systems (GEMS), which represents the first sale under the company's new agreement with GEMS. The installation at Yale was pursuant to a direct special agreement with Advanced NMR. There are now five InstaScan systems in operation throughout the United States.
Echo Planar Imaging has received significant media attention recently, most notably with an extensive article in The New York Times. Advanced NMR's InstaScan system is the only EPI system presently approved by the FDA. On March 8, 1993, ANMR and GEMS announced a long- term exclusive arrangement, under which GEMS is marketing and using ANMR's technology in its GE Signa MRI products.
ANMR is increasing its personnel in order to manufacture InstaScan in response to the growing demand for high-speed MRI technology, and to fulfill its contractual obligations to GEMS.
Advanced NMR Systems, a Wilmington, Mass.-based public company founded in 1983, is a leader in the development and manufacture of sophisticated MRI technology for use in research and clinical applications.
