ADVANCED INK-JET TECHNOLOGY FROM XEROX TO BE USED IN COMPUTER PRINTERS

ROCHESTER, N.Y., May 17 /PRNewswire/ -- An advanced ink-jet technology that uses a 128-nozzle print head has been developed by Xerox for use in desktop computer printers. The technology is the culmination of more than 12 years of work in Xerox research and development facilities in Webster, N.Y. and Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Xerox has retained Tokyo Electric Co., Ltd., (TEC) of Tokyo to assemble desktop printers that use the patented Xerox ink-jet technology. Xerox is manufacturing the printers' ink-jet cartridges in the Xerox Canandaigua, N.Y., manufacturing facility, which has special capabilities in microfabrication.
The Xerox ink-jet print head and attached reservoir of ink is built as a replaceable cartridge. With 128 nozzles, the Xerox print head contains more nozzles than any other printer in its class. This enables a faster print speed than competitive ink-jet technologies. In addition, each Xerox cartridge yields more standard pages than competitive cartridges.
"The market for ink-jet printers is the fastest growing segment of the printer market, and we expect it to continue to grow at a rapid pace," said Mark B. Myers, senior vice president, Corporate Research and Technology. "Documents created with the Xerox ink-jet technology have the appearance of laser printing, but at a lower cost."
Xerox will introduce a personal printer that incorporates this technology later this year. In addition, Xerox will sell versions of the printer to TEC for resale under various brand names throughout the world.
