CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- NationsBank President Kenneth D. Lewis ao?unced that Adelaide A. (Alex) Sink has been named president of NationsBank Florida, effective immediately.
Sink, who previously served as Florida Consumer Bank executive, succeeds R. Eugene (Gene) Taylor, who has been named president of the NationsBank Mid-Atlantic Banking Group. Taylor succeeds J. Harold Chandler, who has resigned to accept a position in another industry outside the Mid-Atlantic region.
"These are decisions that reflect one of our significant strengths - - leadership and management depth," Lewis said. "Gene Taylor and Alex Sink have broad experience in corporate and consumer banking, and they have been successful in many different communities. They know how to get involved and make a difference."
Sink, a native of Mt. Airy, N.C., joined NationsBank in Charlotte in 1974 and has worked in key assignments in New York, Miami and Tampa. She has served as head of both Corporate Banking and Consumer Banking in south Florida and as senior banking officer in Dade County. In 1987, Sink directed a special project in Tampa to develop a statewide consumer information system.
Sink, an executive vice president, is a member of the board of trustees at Wake Forest University, where she graduated magna cum laude as a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
In 1992, she was appointed by Florida Gov. Lawton Chiles to serve on the Government Accountability to the People Commission. She also chaired the local 1993 United Way campaign. In addition, she is a board member of the Hillsborough Education Foundation and serves on advisory boards of The Spring and Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
Taylor's experience in smoothly and effectively consolidating multiple banks in Florida will be extremely valuable in the Mid-Atlantic region, where NationsBank has united its various lines of business, Lewis said.
