ACUSON ANNOUNCES MAJOR IMAGING ADVANCEMENT

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Acuson Corp. (NYSE: ACN) today announced a new technology designed to improve image quality significantly in its high performance medical diagnostic ultrasound systems.
Acuson's new Acoustic Response Technology, or ART, will address a broad range of clinical applications, including abdominal, obstetrical, vascular and small parts (for example, breasts and testicles). ART has been under development for several years in the company's engineering laboratories.
"Acoustic Response Technology offers our customers a whole new level of ultrasound image quality," said Samuel H. Maslak, Sc.D., Acuson's president and chief executive officer. "We believe ART will make possible earlier, more confident diagnoses," Dr. Maslak said.
