ACTIONTEC OFFERS USB DSL MODEM IN UK.

Actiontec Electronics, Inc., a supplier of broadband products, has made its USB Home DSL Modem, based on TI's digital signal processor (DSP)-based DSL technology, available in the United Kingdom.

The Actiontec USB Home DSL Modem includes everything a user would need to easily install DSL by their self. Specifically, the user will receive the USB Home DSL Modem, 4 microfilters, installation software and a USB cable. The consumer only has to connect the modem to an available USB port, install all applicable software, and have their DSL provider activate their service.

The Actiontec USB Home DSL Modem uses Texas Instruments programmable DSP and analog-based DSL technology, which permits users to surf the Internet at speeds up to 8 Mbps. Through TI's future-proof programmable technology, users are able to download the latest DSL software from the Internet, and are ensured access to the highest speed DSL services and compatibility with the latest standards as they become available.

Using ADSL (Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line), the software-upgradeable modem offers lightning fast Internet access -- up to twenty-five times faster than conventional dial-up modems -- over ordinary phone lines. The modem supports simultaneous voice and data traffic over the phone line, enabling the modem to operate without interfering with ordinary telephone conversations. Because ADSL is "always on," the new modem eliminates the annoying delay normally required for modems to dial-up the service provider. Maximizing convenience, the "splitterless" plug-n-play modem plugs into existing telephone outlets for simple installation by the consumer and offers the industry's broadest service provider compatibility, allowing an unprecedented number of consumers to enjoy high-speed, Internet access.

"By providing our USB DSL modem throughout the UK, Actiontec hopes to effectively accelerating the deployment and user acceptance of DSL in Europe," stated Bryan Pini, vice president of International Sales at Actiontec Electronics. "This technology brings the potential of high-speed Internet access to millions of Internet subscribers and expands Actiontec's leadership role in the modem marketplace."

The Actiontec USB Home DSL Modem is compatible with Windows 98/98 SE, Windows 2000 and Windows XP and requires a 200 MHz or faster Pentium-class computer with and available USB port, 32 MB RAM and a CD-ROM drive. The modem includes all required cables, hardware, including microfilters, and installation software.

The (pound)169.95 ((pound)195.48 including VAT) Actiontec USB Home DSL Modem is available at retailers and distributors throughout the United Kingdom.
