ACORN POACHES DESIGN TEAM FROM ST MICROELECTRONICS.

Acorn Group Plc has poached a key design team from ST Microelectronics to be the core of a new system on a chip center the company plans to base in Bristol, UK. The seven-strong team, which was working on the Hitachi 64-bit SH4 RISC microprocessor at ST, is headed by Simon Knowles, who becomes vice president of silicon design at Acorn. The company will develop products for set-top box makers and other consumer electronics devices. Acorn's new facility is expected to be operational by February.
