    ACME-CLEVELAND CORPORATION ELECTS DIRECTOR
    CLEVELAND, Jan. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Acme-Cleveland Corporation (NYSE: AMT) today announced the election of Hugh B. Jacks, recently retired president and chief executive officer of BellSouth Services, Inc. as a director of the corporation.  Jacks was elected by the shareholders to the class of directors whose term expires in January 1995.
    Jacks had been associated with the Bell System companies since 1956 when he joined the system as a student engineer.  Thereafter he held various management positions of increasing responsibility.  He was named president and chief executive officer of BellSouth Services in 1983.
    Residing in Birmingham, Ala., Jacks is a graduate of Mississippi State University.  He currently serves as a director of AmSouth Bancorporation and Provident Life & Accident Insurance Company.  Until his retirement from BellSouth Services in December 1991, he was a director of Bell Communications Research, Southern Bell, and South Central Bell.  In addition, Jacks serves on the boards of various civic, cultural and humanitarian organizations, including the University of Alabama at Birmingham President's Council, Re-Entry Ministries, Alabama Wildlife Federation, Birmingham Museum of Art, and Birmingham Area Council of Boy Scouts of America.
