ACG WORLDWIDE CAPS 1993 GROWTH, SALES; PROSPECTS FOR 1994

DETROIT, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- J.T. Battenberg III, GM vice president and group executive in charge of the Automotive Components Group (ACG) Worldwide, predicts that the ACG's sales to customers outside GM's North American Operations (NAO) will continue at a 10-percent growth rate or more for 1994.
During a press briefing at the North American International Auto Show here today, Battenberg capped the ACG's sales performance for 1993, stating that total sales grew to $24.9 billion, up from $23.6 billion for 1992.
Sales to customers outside GM NAO in 1993 grew to $6.1 billion, or 25 percent, up from $5.4 billion, or 22 percent, the previous year.
"These customers, primarily vehicle manufacturers, are growing their business around the world, and we are aggressively going with them -- into South America, Asia-Pacific and Europe," Battenberg said.
He cited several new acquisitions and business partnerships established in 1993, including operations in the Czech Republic, Mexico, Hungary, China, Spain, Australia and the United States.
"These operations are just part of the results of the creativity and hard work of our management and union workers. Their efforts are helping the ACG Worldwide to exceed customers' expectations, grow our business and improve job security," he said.
He added that employees in the United States will provide much of the design, engineering and manufacturing support for these operations.
