ACCLAIMED BROADWAY HIT 'SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION' GOES BEFORE THE CAMERAS FOR MGM

CULVER CITY, Calif., March 3 /PRNewswire/ -- MGM's much- anticipated screen version of John Guare's smash hit Broadway play "Six Degrees of Separation" begins principal photography on March 4, in New York.
Fred Schepisi directs the biting satire about a savvy young black man who cajoles his way into the home and lives of an elegant Fifth Avenue couple, pretending to be Sidney Poitier's son, and leads them on a whirlwind through every level of life in New York. Stockard Channing reprises the role she originated on Broadway as Ouisa, starring opposite Donald Sutherland as her art dealer husband, Flan, and Will Smith ("Fresh Prince of Bel Air," the upcoming "Made in America") in the role of the young man, Paul.
The impressive ensemble cast also includes acclaimed British actor Sir Ian McKellen, Academy Award nominee Bruce Davison ("Longtime Companion"), Mary Beth Hurt, Anthony Michael Hall, Heather Graham, Eric Thal, Jeffrey Abrams and Osgood Perkins.
"Six Degrees of Separation," a timely and evocative look at the vast differences -- and surprising similarities -- between society's "haves" and "have-nots," will film entirely on location in New York. Produced by Schepisi and Arnon Milchan from Guare's own screenplay, with Ric Kidney executive producing, it is scheduled for release by MGM in late 1993.
