 ACCLAIM ENTERTAINMENT PURCHASES MIRRORSOFT LTD.;
 ALSO ACQUIRES U.S. SUBSIDIARY, ARENA ENTERTAINMENT
 OYSTER BAY, N.Y., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Acclaim Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKLM) announced today it has acquired certain assets of Mirrorsoft Ltd., as well as all of the stock of its U.S. subsidiary, Arena Entertainment. Mirrorsoft, formerly part of the Maxwell Entertainment Group owned by the late Robert Maxwell, is a leading developer and publisher of entertainment software in Europe. Its subsidiary, Arena Entertainment, publishes software for personal computers and Sega's 16-bit Genesis system in the U.S.
 "With the acquisition of Mirrorsoft we hasten our expansion in Europe, accelerate our Sega market entry, and augment our position as a multi-national, multi-format company in the interactive entertainment industry," said Robert Holmes, president of Acclaim. "This purchase provides Acclaim with access to a broad catalog of titles for a variety of personal computer and dedicated game systems; key new licenses such as Aliens III; and strong development resources in both 16-bit and CD-Rom technology."
 Formed in 1984, Mirrorsoft is one of the foremost European publishers of 16-bit personal computer software for the leading hardware systems, including the Commodore Amiga and the Atari ST, under the Image Works, Cinemaware and PSS labels. It has acquired software distribution rights to major film, television and coin-op licenses including such hits as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Falcon. In addition, Mirrorsoft was one of the first entrants into the European Sega eight- and 16-bit markets, and is one of the few companies currently developing products for CD-Rom systems, considered by many industry observers to be the next technological platform for interactive entertainment. Its subsidiary, Arena Entertainment, also publishes personal computer and 16-bit Sega Genesis software in the U.S.
 Acclaim Entertainment, Inc., with offices in Canada, Germany, Japan and the United Kingdom, is a leading worldwide publisher of interactive entertainment software under the Acclaim, LJN and Flying Edge labels. These include Super Nintendo Entertainment System(R), Nintendo Entertainment System(R), Game Boy(R) and personal computer software; wireless remote controllers and hand-held electronic video games; in addition to Sega Genesis(TM) and Sega Game Gear(TM) software slated for release this spring.
