ABC'S NO. 1 WEDNESDAY NIGHT SERIES, 'DOOGIE HOWSER, M.D.,'
 GETS EARLY '92-'93 SEASON RENEWAL
LOS ANGELES, April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- In a rare move that underscores its importance to the network's prime time schedule, ABC-TV has given an extremely early renewal to its No. 1 Wednesday night series, "Doogie Howser, M.D.," for a fourth season with an order of 21 episodes. The commitment was announced almost a full month ahead of the network's normal prime time renewal plans.
Recently moved up a half-hour to an 8:30 p.m. time slot, "Doogie Howser, M.D." has consistently been outperforming its lead-in "The Wonder Years" and its lead-out, the heavily promoted "Young Indiana Jones." April 1 numbers showed "Doogie Howser, M.D.'s" 13.2(a) overshadowing "Young Indiana Jones'" 11.2(a), "Wonder Years'" 12.3(a) and "Homefront's" 10.5(a). "Doogie Howser, M.D." also outperformed such other Wednesday evening network offerings as CBS' "Davis Rules" (9.8(a)) and "48 Hours" (12.6(a)) and NBC's "Dear John" (11.5(a)) and "Quantum Leap" (11.3(a)).
The series is currently being sold by Twentieth Television for a fall 1994 off-network syndicated debut. More than 30 percent of the country has thus far been cleared, including such stations as WPIX/New York, KTLA/Los Angeles, WXON/Detroit, WUAB/Cleveland, KSMO/Kansas City, WPGH/Pittsburgh, XETV/San Diego, among others. The series is being offered on a cash plus barter basis with two minutes available for national sale by Twentieth Television.
"Doogie Howser, M.D." stars Neil Patrick Harris as the teenage genius doctor along with Max Casella, James B. Sikking, Belinda Montgomery, Lawrence Pressman, Kathryn Layng, Lucy Boryer and Markus Redmond.
"Doogie Howser, M.D." is produced by Steven Bochco Productions Inc. The executive producers are Vic Rauseo and Linda Morris. The co-executive producer is Stephen Cragg. Scott Goldstein is supervising producer and Joe Ann Fogle is the producer.
