ABB-DESIGNED GAS TURBINES ACHIEVE INTERNATIONAL SUCCESS
ABB-DESIGNED GAS TURBINES ACHIEVE INTERNATIONAL SUCCESS STAMFORD, Conn., June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- ABB Asea Brown Boveri Ltd.
(ABB) announced today that in the first five months of 1992 it has logged $650 million in orders for its newly designed gas turbines, the GT11N2 (six units) and the GT13E2 (four units). In total, the new orders will have an electricity generating capacity of 1500 MW.
In addition, ABB recently announced it has completed a substantial modernization program of its GT8 gas turbine. The company said the new generation of upgraded, advanced gas turbines is the result of its intensive in-house development efforts. One of the orders is a $130 million contract for six GT11N2 turbines for two Kentucky utilities, originally announced in early March. The units, with a combined output of 600 MW, will be used to provide peaking power. In Great Britain, two high-performance GT13E2 gas turbines will be installed at the Deeside power station. This order demonstrates the continued success of NEI-ABB Gas Turbines Ltd., a joint venture between ABB and Rolls Royce aimed at the British power market. This co- operation in Britain is intended to expand. -0- 6/1/92 /CONTACT: Karen Armour of ABB, 203-328-2217, or home, 203-655-9461/ CO: ABB Asea Brown Boveri Ltd. ST: Connecticut IN: SU:
