ABB RECEIVES ORDER FOR 14 X2000 HIGH-SPEED TRAINS FROM SWEDISH STATE RAILWAYS

ZURICH and STAMFORD, Conn., Jan. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- ABB Group announced today that its Swedish rail equipment manufacturing unit has signed a contract with Swedish State Railways (SJ) for the delivery of 14 X2000 high-speed trains. The order is valued at approximately $140 million. Each train comprises one power car with driver's cab and three passenger cars, one with a driver's cab. Delivery is scheduled to begin in the spring of 1994. The contract also includes an option for an additional 15 trains.
ABB said this award follows an earlier one from SJ for 20 X2000 trains. Deliveries against that order are expected to be completed in 1994.
In the United States, Amtrak is currently demonstrating an X2000 train that is leased from SJ on its Northeast Corridor. The project has featured tests of the train's high-technology capabilities and is now entering the second phase, which will evaluate its appeal in the marketplace while it is in revenue service this spring.
