ABB RECEIVES $133 MILLION CONTRACT FOR POWER PLANT IN PUERTO RICO
STAMFORD, Conn., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Asea Brown Boveri Inc. (ABB) announced today that one of its units has received a turnkey contract, valued at approximately $133 million, from Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA) for three gas turbines.
ABB's Gas Turbine Power Division will be responsible for permitting, designing and building the 248 MW Cambalache Station to be located near Arrecibo. Commercial operation is scheduled for early 1996.
The oil-fired gas turbine generator facility is intended to meet PREPA's needs for additional reserve power and grid stability for the island's residential and industrial customers. ABB said its gas turbine combustion system will meet PREPA's low-NOx emission requirements with the use of steam injection. This will be the first large power generating plant built in Puerto Rico in the last 20 years.
The Gas Turbine Power Division, of North Brunswick, N.J., supplies a complete range of gas turbines for peaking, baseload and combined cycle applications. Asea Brown Boveri Inc., headquartered in Stamford, Conn., provides products and services for the power, process, industrial automation, environmental control, mass transit and other markets. The company and its subsidiaries have sales of approximately $5.5 billion and some 29,000 employees in the United States.
