 AAI CORPORATION ANNOUNCES ACQUISITION OF ACL TECHNOLOGIES
 HUNT VALLEY, Md., Jan. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- AAI Corporation announced


today that it has acquired ACL Technologies, Inc., a Santa Ana, California-based developer and manufacturer of hydraulic test equipment. Previously, the two companies jointly proposed to provide automatic test equipment to both commercial and defense-related customers.
 In a joint statement, Thomas V. Murphy and Joseph Abdo, presidents of the two companies, said, "This acquisition combines ACL's leadership in hydraulic, fuel and pneumatic systems and test equipment with AAI's corporate strength and extensive experience in electronics, software and integration." Murphy continued, "The combined resources of AAI and ACL will be focused initially on the ongoing development and growth of IMAGE(TM) automatic fluid test systems with continued emphasis on ACL's core products."
 He concluded, "The acquisition of ACL demonstrates our continuing commitment to meeting the needs of both the world's commercial airlines and the Defense Department."
 AAI Corporation, headquartered in Hunt Valley, a subsidiary of United Industrial Corporation (NYSE: UIC), develops and produces high- technology systems for commercial and military use.
