AAA AND AMERICAN EXPRESS RENEW NO-FEE TRAVELERS CHEQUE AGREEMENT
ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Automobile Association and American Express Travel Related Services Company, Inc. have renewed their agreement through which AAA affiliated clubs offer American Express(R) Travelers Cheques at no fee to their more than 33 million members in the United States and Canada.
The announcement was made jointly by Paul R. Verkuil, AAA president, and James D. Robinson III, chairman of American Express Company.
The world's largest seller of travelers cheques, AAA began offering American Express Travelers Cheques to its members in 1983. Since then, the association's sales in the U.S. and Canada have more than tripled, reaching $2.6 billion in 1991.
"American Express Travelers Cheques have tremendous appeal to AAA members because the company's reputation for superior customer service complements AAA's commitment to excellence in meeting the needs of its growing membership," Verkuil said.
"Both AAA and American Express share an absolute determination to go to extreme lengths to help customers, who often call when they're in trouble far from home," Robinson said. "This alliance is important, not only to both organizations, but to travelers everywhere."
American Express Travelers Cheques are available worldwide in seven currencies, are accepted virtually everywhere that cash is accepted and, if lost or stolen, refunds can be hand-delivered in most cases in under 24 hours.
American Express Travelers Cheques are a product of American Express Travel Related Services Company, Inc., a family of travel, financial, insurance, data processing and communications businesses, and a wholly owned subsidiary of American Express Company.
AAA is a not-for-profit federation of 145 motor clubs with more than 1,000 offices providing members in the U.S. and Canada with travel, insurance, financial and auto-related services.
