NORTHBROOK, Ill., Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- A.C. Nielsen has acquired the STARS(TM), store audit service of Asesores Inc. of Puerto Rico. The announcement was made today by Serge Okun, president and chief executive officer of A.C. Nielsen/IMS and by Nestor Beron and Julio Lopez, owners of Asesores.
Asesores is the leading marketing information company in Puerto Rico and owns the only store-audit service, STAR, which it started in 1989.
"We felt the acquisition was the most natural way to combine the locally developed experience of Asesores and the most advanced technologies used by Nielsen customers worldwide," said Beron and Lopez.
"This acquisition is indicative of the momentum Nielsen is continuing to build worldwide to provide bottom line solutions to its customers," said Okun. "Nielsen is aggressively expanding its global reach and depth of marketing information, as evidenced by 1993 acquisitions, alliances and synergies throughout the Dun & Bradstreet organization: the establishment of Nielsen Poland; the purchase of AdScan which measures advertising spending in Canada; the acquisition of a majority interest in Cadem S.A. of Chile; United States partnerships or acquisitions with EDS, Scanner Applications, NON-STOP Logistics, APT, Promotion Information Bureau and Dun & Bradstreet's NCH; and worldwide synergies with Nielsen, IMS, Dun & Bradstreet Software, and Sales Technologies. We will continue to leverage the power of Nielsen, IMS and Dun & Bradstreet worldwide to meet the changing needs of our customers."
Based in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Asesores was established in 1972 by Mr. Nestor Beron, one of the two shareholders. The other shareholder, Mr. Julio Lopez, joined the firm in 1978. The STARS service was launched in 1989 and is the largest syndicated study on the island. STARS provides information in five basic areas:
