 A. P. GREEN ANNOUNCES HUMMER ELECTED CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
MEXICO, Mo., Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- A. P. Green Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ: APGI) today announced that its board of directors had elected Paul F. Hummer chief executive officer effective Sept. 1, 1992.
Harry M. Stover who was formerly chief executive officer will remain chairman of the board until his retirement in early 1993. In making the announcement Stover said, "When I became chairman of the board and chief executive officer of A. P. Green in February of 1988, I agreed to stay for five years. During this period of time my goal was to put in place a management team to accomplish the difficult transition from being a subsidiary of a large public company headquartered in Chicago to a stand-alone company and to lead that company well into the next century. During the past four and a half years this management team has faced a hostile takeover attempt; dramatic changes in the markets served by the company; a drastic economic downturn; and increased governmental regulatory actions. This team responded well to these challenges. I believe that my goal has been achieved and it is time for Paul Hummer to assume the day-to-day responsibility for all aspects of the company."
Hummer said, "I look forward to these new responsibilities and am gratified with the confidence that Harry and the board of directors have shown in me. With the support of the rest of the management team and all the employees of A. P. Green and its subsidiaries, I know that we can become a profitable and prosperous company."
 A. P. Green Industries, Inc., headquartered in Mexico, Mo., is a leading manufacturer and distributor of refractory products in both the United States and international markets.
