A-Level round-up: More have places confirmed.

RECORD numbers of students have had their places at university confirmed already this year, meaning fewer will have to endure the anxiety of going through clearing.

More than 267, 000 applicants had their higher education places confirmed by this morning, the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (Ucas) said.

This was 7. 2% up on the same period last year (249, 000 confirmed places) and represents a record figure.

The number of confirmed places leapt over the quarter of a million mark for the first time as the overall A-Level pass rate rose to 96%.

The Ucas clearing help line number is 0800 112 2211.
