A-B fighting MD for 10th year

Anheuser-Busch, Inc. has announced that for the 10th consecutive year it will take part in the fight against muscular dystrophy. This year, the company said, its fund-raising promotion campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association will again culminate with a check presentation during the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon.

As in past years, for each case of 12-oz. cans of Budweiser and Bud Light sold during the MDA campaign period (August 1 through September 4), A-B wholesalers will make a two-cent contribution to the MDA. The wholesalers' contribution will be matched with another two cents per case donation from A-B, the St. Louis brewer reported.

Both on- and off-premise point-of-sale items, such as banners, price cards, shelf talkers, table tents and neck rings will feature the Budweiser Clydesdales in a "Pulling Together in the Fight against Muscular Dystrophy" theme.

According to the brewer, A-B will recognize all of its participating wholesalers, as well as retailers who authorize the Bud and Bud Light displays, in a special full-page ad in USA Today.

"Anheuser-Busch is proud to continue its association with the Muscular Dystrophy Association," Michael J. Roarty, executive vice president and director of marketing, stated. "Last year scientists scored a major breakthrough in the battle against this dreaded disease by identifying the critical muscle protein which is missing from the cells of children with muscular dystrophy. Our goal is to continue to assist the work being done to attempt to wipe out this crippling disease."

Since 1980, A-B has raised more than $28 million to help fight MD, the company said, including last year's record total of $4 million.

Wholesalers participate in the Bud/Bud Light MDA program in a variety of ways, ranging from coin canisters used to collect spare change where the beers are sold, to sponsoring runs, walks and other grass-roots fund-raising events. Additionally, many wholesalers assist in manning their local Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon phone headquarters, A-B said.
