A-B announces $20,000 poster contest

While "Know Your Limits" was the theme of last year's winner in the "Know When to Say When" poster competition, college students nationwide will be challenged to stretch the limits of their imagination by developing poster concepts that creatively express the need for personal responsibility and respect for the law when consuming alcohol. Awards totaling $20,000 in scholarship money will be given.

Held in conjunction with National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week (NCAAW), and co-sponsored by Anheuser-Busch, Inc., and the Inter-Association Task Force on Alcohol and Other Substance Abuse Issues, the poster competition's goal is to bring attention to the need for legal and responsible consumption of alcohol and to further the "Know When to Say When" message on campuses. Over 3,000 entries were received in last year's inaugural contest.

"Making the personal responsibility message contemporary and top-of-mind is important if we are to make a positive impact on today's college campuses," said Edward Hammond, president, Fort Hays State University and national chairman, NCAAW. "Who better to create those messages than the college students themselves?"

The winning entry will earn a $5,000 scholarship. It will also serve as the official poster for the 1991 National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week, held each fall an over 3,000 college campuses.

In addition, five $1,000 runner-up scholarships and 20 $500 third place scholarships will be awarded.

"The poster competition is part of our total support of NCAAW," said Stephen Burrows, vice president, consumer awareness and education, Anheuser-Busch. "Over 300 of our independent wholesalers participated in the Week last year, and we expect even greater involvement in 1990."
