A worthy cause.

I personally don't smoke and most of my friends have given up the habit. However, many veterans have been unable or unwilling to give up cigarettes. The Ontario government has approved the installation of a segregated smoking area in the Perley and Rideau Veterans Health Centre (PRVHC) in Ottawa (similar areas are in place in Sunnybrook in Toronto and Park Lodge in London, Ont.).

The PRVHC is on a tight budget and is seeking donations to help meet the cost--about $75,000--of this new facility. The Legion as well as a number of veterans groups are supporting this project. Although I am a non-smoker, I am horrified when I see our elderly veterans who can't kick the habit venturing into the winter climate to enjoy their solace.

You can contribute to this project (and, indeed, to other projects to better the lives of our vets) by sending your donations to the Perley and Rideau Veterans Health Centre Foundation, 1750 Russell Road, Ottawa, ON, K1G 5Z6.

If you wish your donation to be directed to the "smoking area project," please indicate this on your cheque or money order. Donations to the PRVHC are, of course, tax deductible.
