A united front to fight Alzheimer's.
Muscat: Oman is all set to launch the Oman Alzheimer's Society, which will work towards raising awareness on Alzheimer's disease -- an irremediable, progressive brain disease that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills. According to the World Health Organisation, Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia and may contribute to 60--70 per cent of cases. The society will be launched tomorrow before the commencement of the walkathon, titled 'Your Mind Matters; Remember 2013,' at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Stadium, Bausher. Dr Hamed Al Sinawi, consulting geriatric psychiatrist from the Department of Behavioural Medicine at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) Hospital, stated, "Oman Alzheimer's Society, which has been approved by the Ministry of Social Development, is an initiative by the Ageing and Dementia Research Group at SQU. It will become part of the Oman Association of Friends of the Elderly."
