A triangle of class.

By Maria Gregoriou

Sundays seem to be the perfect time to catch some classical music, while also helping to support a special cause. This Sunday the music will be performed by three classical musicians under the title East Meets West and will be staged to support the Cyprus Kidney Association in Paphos.

The concert, at the Annabelle Hotel in Paphos at 8pm, will feature solo piano works by Chopin, Liszt and Debussy, performed by the award-winning Russian pianist Natalia Lezedova. Arias and songs by Puccini, Bizet and Strauss will be performed by soprano Tina Chester and lyric baritone Teodoro de Castillo.

Lezedova, from St Petersburg, is a laureate of five international competitions, including two first prizes as a performer-soloist in St Petersburg and Moscow in 2012, winner of the Grand-Prix at the Severnaya Venetsia Music Festival in 2012 and the first prize as a concertmaster at the Performing Arts Musical Competition in St Petersburg in 2013.

The pianist has been performing in Russia, Ukraine and Cyprus since 2003. This Sunday her performance will include Chopin's Polonaise in C sharp Minor, Op. 26 No.1, and Nocturnes, and Liszt's Transcendental Etude No 12 Chasse-neige (Snowstorm).

Soprano Chester, who lives in Cyprus but is from north west England, studied classical and performance techniques with various teachers. She has had much success performing at music festivals and other events such as weddings, corporate functions, operatic and theatre productions.

Baritone Castillo, who also lives in Cyprus but is Italian, has a professional background in modern opera, classical and musical theatre. He toured for two years with an Il Divo tribute group and has made solo appearances in many parts of Europe. His main influences are Pavarotti, Boccelli and Josh Groban and he is looking forward to performing some of their music during the concert.
