A test case.

Byline: A.G. Habib-Karachi

THIS is apropos the report 'Spanish firm approaches FIA, NAB over 'fraud' in Green Line project' (June 21), according to which, a Spanish company has complained to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) that it had supplied automated doors to Green Line bus rapid transit (BRT) service for 500,000 euros but a Pakistani contractor had charged more than 2.5 million euros to the Green Line.

This is a case of huge over-billing and could not have taken place without active connivance of the officials concerned. Knowing the working of government projects, this should only be the tip of the iceberg.

And, the project relates to the federal government, which means someone in Islamabad would surely have something to do with it. Nothing will happen at FIA or NAB level. Even if they take up the issue, it will linger on for decades. This in a certain way is a test case for Islamabad.
