A salute to the 1989 Gold Quill winners.

A SALUTE TO THE 1989

BRAVO to those who walked away with the gold in this year's IABC Gold Quill Awards program! Nearly 3,000 entries from all over the world represented the best the profession has to offer.

* Ninety-six winners will receive a coveted Gold Quill trophy. Thirty will receive Awards of Excellence; 66 Awards of Merit. Selecting these 96 was no task for the uninspired or inattentive. Gold Quill judges put in long hours of contemplation and care in deciding who's the best.

* Entries were evaluated by two levels of judges. The first tier was made up of 18 teams located around the world. These judges selected three to five entries in each of the categories for final consideration. Final entries then were evaluated in a two-and-a-half day session by a Blue Ribbon panel chosen from IABC Fellows, past IABC chairpersons, Accredited Business Communicators, multiple Gold Quill winners, IABC Foundation board members and other leaders in the profession. The Blue Ribbon group conducted its evaluation on the final entries without seeing the first tier judges' scores.

* "To win an award takes careful planning, a quality product and most of all, results," says Chuck Cantor, 1989 Gold Quill chairman. "The winning entries reveal a high level of professionalism, innovation, control, form and message," he adds.

* If you entered, but didn't win an award, you're still a winner. You took the time and made the effort to showcase your talen t and ability. This sets you apart from the crowd; through your efforts, you help set the standards of excellence to which all communicators strive. So, get ready to stroll away with the gold next year!

* All Gold Quill Award winning entries will be on display at IABC 89/New Challenges, New Solutions international conference in New Orleans, La., June 4-7. And, each entry is included in "No Secrets," the publication where Gold Quill winners and judges tell all. "No Secrets" and its 1988 predecessor can be ordered at conference or from IABC headquarters in San Francisco.
