A question of design.

Byline: NICOLA WILKES

Q. I'm looking for a cool, retro style-clock for my kitchen. Any suggestions? A. Have you heard of Newgate Clocks? Known for its vintage and retro-inspired designs, the range - which can be seen at www.newgateclocks.com - is rather comprehensive. The Brixton (below left), the Watford and the Barbican (below right) are all new in the collection and have just launched. Perhaps one of them might fit the bill? They all have an RRP of pounds 80, with the Brixton and Watford measuring 40cm in diameter while the Barbican is 44cm.

Q. Where can I find some suitable storage containers for my bathroom that I don't have to apologise for if they're on show? A. When someone asks where they can buy baskets or boxes to keep on worktops or shelving, the likes of The Holding Company, www.theholdingcompany.co.uk offers quite a comprehensive range of options. But for a new take on the good old wicker basket, I would suggest these bathroom storage cubes from Swanky Maison. Made from a heavy-duty cotton, they are perfect for tidying away make-up, towels or loo roll! Side handles also make for easy carrying. They're machine washable and cost pounds 14.99 for the smaller size measuring 20 x 20 x 20cm; or the larger size 25 x 25 x 25cm, pounds 17.99, available from Swanky Maison, www.swankymaison.com.

Q. I love the big outdoor ovens that you see on the likes of Jamie Oliver programmes but where do I buy one? A. With a range of hand-crafted, authentic wood-fired ovens suitable for indoor and outdoor use, The Stone Bake Oven Company, www.thestonebakecompany.co.uk, has everything any enthusiastic al fresco cook might need to get started on such a cooking adventure! Although there are other ovens on offer, the Primo Pre-Assembled Oven is a good model to start with; it's a compact, igloo-style wood-fired oven. This breakthrough product combines oven quality and affordability to provide an authentic wood-fired cooking experience without the hefty price tag: it costs pounds 599 for the Primo oven, the oven door and the weatherproof cover; or pounds 889 for all of the above as well as the stand, log protective skirting, weather-proof cover, accessory kit and floor-standing thermometer. It's also easy to install and use, reaching optimum cooking temperatures in just over 15 minutes. Cook one to two dishes at a time, or one to two pizzas baked to crispy perfection in less than one minute, catering to the individual, or a larger party. You can also log on to the website and download the latest stone bake recipes.
