A new culture of blog writers.
More than half of those who choose to write a blog - an online journal with entries updated frequently - opt to make it available in the form of a public diary, research by social networking site MSN Spaces showed.
Topics covered include everything from fashion and technology to sports and music, with 27 per cent of UK internet users now writing a blog and 59 per cent sharing it with the public.
Yorkshire was found to be the "blogging capital" of the UK, with more than a third (35 per cent) of internet users in the area blogging, while in Wales, only 16 per cent keep a blog.
The survey showed most people use their blog as a form of online diary (59 per cent).
Writing about a hobby (28 per cent), travel (17 per cent) and news and world events (12 per cent) were also hot blog topics.
The survey, the MSN Spaces Blogging Britain Report, found a fifth of bloggers said they do it to make their voice heard and 18 per cent to express views on topics they are passionate about.
Six per cent said they used their blog to campaign for a political issue that was important to them.
When it came to reading blogs, only one in ten internet users read them for the latest celebrity news, with more than two thirds preferring insights into real peoples lives and reading about everyday users' thoughts and feelings.
The latest technology news (33 per cent), new music (30 per cent), news (28 per cent), film news (25 per cent) and sports news (19 per cent) were all reasons why internet users read blogs.
However, blogs were not trusted by those who read them.
Only four per cent said they saw blogs as a "totally impartial form of information", with 64 per cent taking what they read "with a pinch of salt".
