A leading physician; Dr. Burbank heads orthopedics group.
Dr. Kelton Burbank, an orthopedic surgeon at HealthAlliance Hospital - Leominster Campus, has been named president of the New England Orthopaedic Society.
"After serving many years as a board member, I am looking forward to my term as president. My goal will be to lead the organization through this very turbulent period in health care," Dr. Burbank said in a news release.
With advanced fellowship training in sports medicine at New England Baptist Hospital and the Lahey Clinic, Dr. Burbank specializes in shoulder injuries and has a professional interest in joint replacement surgery. He is the orthopedic consultant for the University of Massachusetts at Amherst men's hockey team and the orthopedic adviser for Tri-Hard, an endurance sports coaching company.
Dr. Burbank is a member of the New England Shoulder and Elbow Society, the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, serving as the Massachusetts representative in Council of Delegates. He is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery with a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Orthopedic Sports Medicine.
Dr. Burbank is a member of the HealthAlliance Hospital medical staff and practices at North County Orthopedics in Leominster along with orthopedic surgeon C. Brittany Boisvert. He lives in Princeton with his wife, Dr. Elizabeth Burbank, and their twin 6-year-old daughters.
Michael Descoteaux of Fitchburg earned Faculty Honors for the fall 2012 semester at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta. Undergraduate students earning a 4.0 academic average for the semester gain the distinction of Faculty Honors at Georgia Tech.
Take a sweet walk through the St. Anna's second Annual Sweetheart's Cupcake Walk from 1 to 5 p.m. Feb. 9 and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 10 at the church hall, 199 Lancaster St., Leominster.
This year's cupcake varieties include Red Velvet, Carrot, Ultimate Chocolate, Vanilla Delight (white cake-based), Blueberry Cream Cheese, Pina Colada, Orange Creamsicle, Peanut Butter Cup, Mint Chocolate, Italian Cookie, Oreo, and Root Beer Float.
Varieties will be gluten- and sugar-free, along with vegan options, but only through preorders. A dozen cupcakes are $10 a dozen, $7.50 preordered. Half-dozens are $7.50, $5 preordered.

Christopher Cote of Leominster graduated with a master of science degree from the University of Wisconsin at Stout in December.
The St. Bernard's High School Drama Club will present its 2013 Interclass Competitive One-Act Plays at the school, 45 Harvard St., Fitchburg, at 7 p.m. Jan. 26. Each class will perform a comedy acted and directed by students.
Judges consisting of local drama teachers and actors will pick the best play and pick outstanding acting awards from each play. The audience will also vote for the best play, and these winners will be added to the perennial plaque mounted at the entrance to the auditorium.
Tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the door.
Kimberly DiManno of Leominster was named to the dean's list for the fall 2012 semester at the University of Delaware, Newark, Del.
Zoe Bellio of Fitchburg, Cassandra Rivard of Leominster, Kayla FitzGerald, Samantha Holloway and Angela Sheehy of Lunenburg were named to the dean's list for the fall 2012 semester at the University of New Haven.
