A home away from home.

Rima Al-Mukhtar

Kris Kros is an international casual dining restaurant offering cuisines from the US, Asia and the Mediterranean.

It is located in the Sheikh Mohammed Boulevard, previously known as the Emaar Boulevard, right next to the Dubai Mall.

As I walked in to the restaurant, I felt like I have just entered a kindergarten class, thanks to the bright colors of the chair, such as, red, blue and yellow, and white wooden tables. I was not willing to take the restaurant seriously until the host walked me to their upper section comprising sofas and chairs in black leather. I was informed that you can smoke shisha indoors and that is when I decided to give it a try. Guess what? Kris Kros is now one of my favorite hangout places in Dubai.

Around 23 shisha flavors are served. A number of flat screens adorn the walls of the restaurant so that diners can watch live football matches and other sports.

The Kris Kros menu offers a variety of global cuisine, which is grouped in three categories.

For appetizers, the Dynamite Shrimps is a must-have and comprises battered deep fried shrimps with house dynamite sauce. The Garlic Sweet Chili Chicken Wings is another great choice and the restaurant offers plastic gloves to allow you to enjoy the experience without getting any of the sauce on your hands. The Sesame Crusted Warm Goat Cheese comprises balsamic raisin and pecan nuts champagne bread, grilled eggplant laced with basil, assorted greens and walnut cherry vinaigrette. Also try the Deep Fried Gouda Cheese Sticks comprising crispy fried Gouda sticks served with the thousand island dip on the side.

For salads, the Japanese Beef Salad is one of their specialties; it comprises wild rocket, asparagus, skewered marinated grilled Japanese beef served on a lemon grass stick. If you are looking to have something light for the main dish, try one of their sandwiches and wraps. The Grilled Chicken Tandoori Wrap is highly recommended and consists of marinated grilled chicken breast, iceberg, spicy tandoori spread and grilled mushrooms.

Fresh from the oven comes the mouthwatering pizza in different flavors and toppings such as, Mexican, Indian, Hawaiian, traditional pepperoni, Margherita as well as the house specialty -- the Kris Kros Tarufo pizza comprising truffle cream spread, salsa tartufata, white truffle oil, rocket chiffonade, grated pecorino, shaved parmesan and extra virgin olive oil.

I chose the Linguine Black Truffle from the pasta menu. It is made with fresh cream, shredded fresh asparagus, salsa tortufata, white truffle oil, Parmesan and pecorino. It's a bit heavy for summer but it's very flavorful and creamy. I would totally recommend it for the autumn season.

You will fall in love with their Chicken Cutlet A La Milanaise made with breaded chicken breast topped with rocket and cherry tomato salad. This by far is my favorite dish; it is full of flavor and is light.

There is nothing special about the Stuffed Cheese Burger 200 Grams comprising a double layer patty stuffed with cheese and a special sauce made with mayo. It was just an ordinary cheeseburger with a normal patty, cheese and buns.

The House Smoked Salmon is a great choice and comprises apple wood chips, smoked grilled salmon pave, eggplant caviar seasoned with pomegranate molasses, virgin sauce, sauteed baby spinach and avocado.

Kris Kros offers a variety of mocktails and fresh juices so make sure to try the Coconut Island made with exotic tropical fruits that you will never regret trying. For dessert, the gooey chocolate fondant Is highly recommended as well as the Pain perdu French toast, which is crispy on the outside from the burnt sugar and soft from the inside. It is served with a side of vanilla ice cream.

The restaurant is open all day and is always teeming with Dubai youth who come to enjoy good food along with good shisha. I wanted to grab a quick lunch but I ended up staying for four hours because I liked the ambiance and the service so much so that I felt like I was home.
