I believe though, that Prime Minister David Cameron was right in the decision he took in Brussels in vetoing a new European treaty.
We are an island people which makes us very independent in our thinking, as shown down the years in the many decisions we have taken.
I and many other British people take great exception to being told by a foreign parliament, even though it has British members on it, what we can do and what we can't.
On top of this, the organisation costs us a lot of money in part because of its inefficiency as it is based in two cities a long way apart. That does not mean to say that we should forget the grant aid that comes to us from the European Parliament.
Only time will tell what the future holds and what influence we will have in mainland European terms. I believe we do have to have an association with Europe as they need to have one with us.
In trade terms it is an important market in both directions and this needs to continue.
The treaty that we enter into has to be clearly understood and agreed by we the people before our signature goes on it.
The world is in a mess in the main because of incompetent leadership and greed. Let's get our own house in order to give an example to the other countries in Europe so that they will want us to be a key part of a new treaty that covers the European area.
