A full line-up from Strema.

The introduction of a new fully automatic stretchwrapper and the debut of the Eco-Film Li -- the intelligent film prestretch system -- were announced by Strema during Pakex earlier this year. These two new units complete Strema's product line-up; it includes stretchwrappers for all types of bulk unit load, from delicate pallets of crisps to those carrying 35 tonne coils of steel.

Strema, who are represented in the UK by Flo-Mech Packaging Machinery Ltd, have a large number of installations in this country. Their customers include major food retial chain distribution centres and a number of snack food manufactures.

The SAD-16 fully automatic pallet wrapper is a cost-effective turnable-type pallet wrapping system for incorporation into a pallet conveyor system. The machine has been designed especially for use where a small footprint wrapping system is required for installation into medium capacity production lines. Where a top sheet is required, the wrapper incorporates a fully automated application system, either over the turn-table or over the infeed conveyor. The first UK food industry installation of an SAD-16 has already been completed at the Midlands plant of a specialist horse foodstuff compounder.

Highly efficient film prestretch systems are extolled by almost every supplier of stretchwrappers but the Strema system was introduced more than a decade ago. In the past, two prestretch techniques have been developed by the company -- a single and a two-roll system. In both cases, fully variable drives were incorporated to allow the operator to optimize the film stretch. The Eco-Film Li is a single roll mechanism that thinks for itself!. The use of this system allows the user to decide upon the desired prestretch ratio -- from zero to 650 percent -- then run the machine. If a film reel has to be changed, the system resets itself automatically. A number of machines with this film system are already in service, including one at the factory of a major soft drink producer in the Home Counties.
