A decision that will be rued; FEEDBACK.
The real irony is that if only 2p a head, out of the annual precept paid by us, which was increased by 1.99% last financial year, had been ring - fenced for the Police Mounted Section, disbandment should not have been considered.
With the PCC's priority of neighbourhood policing, it was surely the worst thing that could have happened anyway, for along with local beats, the mounted section were those who had most contact with all walks of the public and were a huge asset to PR.
Thus, as an operational matter, this was a tactical faux pas and as a budgetary one, even more so.
If Northumbria Police, who have to make savings of PS48m, can keep their mounted section, then what does it say about the politics here in Cleveland? This is a decision that will be rued and the section sorely missed.
