A creative type.

Heifer International has hired its first creative director in an effort to bring more strategy to the publications and materials it produces. Bill Fitzgerald, formerly associate creative director at CJRW, has taken the post, which is responsible for producing Heifer's publications and the bimonthly World Ark magazine. World Ark has a circulation between 500,000 and 600,000, but the circulation balloons during the holiday season.

"I come from an ad agency background and am doing a lot of the things I did there, but in a different context," Fitzgerald said. "It's not as different as I thought it'd be."

He's staying just as busy, though, and has about 80 projects in the queue. He is currently working with Page McBrier, author of "Beatrice's Goat," on a new children's book.
