A child's world.

The Children's Museum of the Arts in New York City has invited children, ages 2-12, from 77 countries, to submit artworks and an optional statement or poem interpreting their daily life experiences to "A Child's World," an international, multicultural children's art exhibition. A Child's World provides creative avenues for children to explore cultural differences and shared human experiences through the universal language of art.

Working with consulates, schools and service organizations, the Children's Museum of the Arts has sent guidelines to children from every major continent, suggesting the following themes: self-portrait, daily life, the neighborhood where I live, cultural traditions and celebrations, and fantasy. A selection committee of educators, museum professionals and artists have selected approximately 100 artworks for the exhibition. All artworks submitted for A Child's World have become part of the museum's International Collection of Children's Art and are available for future travelling exhibitions and study.

A Child's World, will open in January 1991 in New York City at the A.I.R. Gallery in SoHo and will then travel to Lincoln Center's Cork Gallery and the Museum of the City of New York. A two-year traveling exhibition schedule to other cities in the United States and abroad is being planned.

The Children's Museum of the Arts is a new, private, not-for-profit organization in New York City which provides imaginative, interactive visual and performing arts programs and exhibitions for children and their families. Unique in its interdisciplinary focus on the visual and performing arts, the Children's Museum of the Arts is dedicated to helping children develop their full potential through the arts.
