A celebration of choral hits.

THE Manama Singers and Bahrain Sinfonia will once again come together with an astounding selection of choral and orchestral works to celebrate some of the world's best known composers' anniversaries.

The Crowne Plaza's Bahrain Convention Centre, the event's venue sponsor, will ring with the songs of Puccini, Handel and Haydn on June 5 at 7.30pm.

This final concert of the season for the choir and orchestra will bring together more than 100 singers and 60 musicians under the baton of conductor Alistair Auld.

The Manama Singers, the leading choir of the Middle East, welcomes visiting choirs from Dhahran, Riyadh, Oman, Dubai and Abu Dhabi to join them for this event.

They will be accompanied by the Bahrain Sinfonia, which is made up of 35 locally-based musicians and is augmented by musicians from across the Gulf and the UK who will be flown into Bahrain by airline sponsor Gulf Air.

The event will also feature the acclaimed tenor soloist Clifford Lister, whose first solo performance in Bahrain was at the choir's June 2006 Verdi Requiem. He also performed at last year's Viva Opera! concert.

International bass soloist Colin Campbell will make his Bahrain debut at the event.

Italian composer Giacomo Puccini is beloved among music fans and his Messa di Gloria is an uplifting work of celebration with themes of redemption, glory and peace.

Insanae et vane curae (Insane and idle cares) is a turbulent, sacred chorus written in 1797 by Franz Joseph Haydn and will be performed by the choir and orchestra.

Zadok the Priest is one of Handel's most recognisable choral pieces today not least because it has been sung at all British coronation services since it was first performed as an anthem for the coronation of George the second of Great Britain in 1727.

Tickets for the concert are available at BD12, BD9 and BD6 from Alosra Supermarket in Budiaya, The Bookcase and at the Dilmun Club.
