A cardiac arrest for gem thief.

AN armed raider smashed his way into a posh jeweller's shop yesterday - clutched his chest, then collapsed on the floor with a heart attack.

The crook's hammerwielding accomplice fled, leaving stunned staff to give the kiss of life and ring for an ambulance.

The bungled raid happened as staff opened up at John Gowling jewellers in Oxford's busy covered market. The duo smashed three windows but nothing was stolen.

A spokesman for the South Central Ambulance Service said the man, in his 40s, was in a serious condition in hospital.

Liz Jones, who works nearby, said: "It's a huge shock, I can't believe it."
