A bite of alpha. Burger.
We are talking about the alpha. Burger. It's named after the lifestyle magazine alpha, which set out in January to unearth Dubai's best burger. As part of the mission, it created the alpha. Burger, with the help of chefs in the city and alpha's food writer Jonathan Castle.
The first thing that strikes you about the burger is its simplicity - and the odd shape. It's just two slices of square bread with a meat patty.
The next thing that strikes you is its juicy bursting flavour. The flame-grilled beef comes from pampered Wagyu cattle and Aussie tenderloin - all 200g of it. It's like refined steak in a bun. Unlike the garden burger variety, nothing goes on top of it. Instead, the ingredients are finely minced into it and cooked together, leaving no visible traces - just taste.
There is Dijon mustard, HP brown sauce, white onion, caper, salt, and pepper.
The bread is fresh and light oven baked Italian focaccia. It's slightly crispy and golden-brown on the outside, white feather pillow soft and fluffy on the inside.
The heightened flavour is down to the Beenleigh blue cheese. Punchy and strong, it kicks in right away. If you love blue cheese, then this is blue cheese heaven.
The alpha. Burger (Dh60) is now on the menu of Bunkers Restaurant, The Address Montgomerie, Emirates Hills.
