A barmy Bill.
That is what we got yesterday from Teresa Gorman, though, who would appropriately be the Member for Barking.
She wanted the Commons to back a
referendum on Europe.
The answer to her lunacy was perfectly put by Denis MacShane, Labour MP for Rotherham.
He said Mrs Gorman's Bill was the opening shot of a campaign to get Britain out of Europe. And it was.
He said that if this country left the EU it would be disastrous for us. And it would be.
He said membership of the European Union is vital for Britain's trade, prosperity and democracy. And it is.
Teresa Gorman and her henchmen on
the Tory benches are obsessed with a
Britain that has not existed since we
lost our empire.
They see this little island taking on the world and beating it. What incredible and dangerous nonsense.
On our own, we would be reduced to the status of a Third-World country. As part of the EU, we have the strength of the planet's greatest trading block.
In Europe, Britain can have a great
future. Outside it, there is no future
