A Swiss poll.

Newcastle United are as good as out of the UEFA Cup, according to the FC Basel fans.

Tonight's match has attracted massive interest in Basel and the game will be a 30,000 sell-out.

However, in advance of the match, a poll of 5,400 Basel fans revealed that 85 per cent of them think the Swiss team will qualify for the next round at the expense of Sir Bobby Robson's side.

The bookies are in agreement as far as the first leg goes - Coral make Basel slight favourites at 11/8 to win, with United at 6/4 and the draw 9/4.

The good news for the travelling Toon Army is that it isn't freezing in Switzerland yet, with temperatures at present just below those in England.

Basel fans are waiting to hear whether their star playmaker Hakan Yakin is going to be fit after the Swiss international was forced to miss last Sunday's 2-1 victory at Servette with injury.

Yakin said: "I want to play against a team like Newcastle United and I am hoping that I will."
