A Plan B for broken Brits.

ILL MANORS 18, 121mins. Opens Wednesday THE STARS Riz Ahmed, Ed Skrein. THE VERDICT Rapper Plan B (aka Ben Drew) makes his directorial debut with this downbeat, dark drama that features six interweaving stories, linking druggies, hoodies and prostitutes.

Riz Ahmed is especially good as a dealer driven more by circumstance than nastiness. Plan B's music provides a poetic arc between the stories, and while weighed down by too much material and a pub fire worthy of EastEnders, there is no doubting his commitment to this story about "broken Britain".

3 FINAL CUT Hoodie drama is a tough tale
