CALGARY, Alberta, Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- To serve the growing number of international customers located in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, New Era Systems Services Ltd. of Calgary announces the opening of New Era Systems Services Europe Ltd. (NESSE). NESSE will be responsible for marketing and technical support in Europe of HARBOR, New Era's industry-leading backup and recovery software for distributed systems.
NESSE is based in Galway, Ireland. The company joins New Era's U.S. operation in Sacramento, Calif., as a second wholly owned subsidiary. NESSE is headed by General Manager Peter Gailer, who will also join New Era's Board of Directors. Gailer brings many years of experience in the European information technology area, most recently with a large distributor of networking products. "We have excellent distributors for HARBOR, with BRM in England, Lennox & Partner in Germany, and Selesta in Italy. We hope that the establishment of NESSE will complement their services and provide even more value to our customers," says Gailer. Discussions are currently being held with leading distributors in other European countries, and NESSE expects to announce representatives for other territories this fall. NESSE marketing responsibilities are handled by Jim Godsell, director of International Sales, while Jurgen Strunz supplies technical support out of the branch office in Munich, Germany.
Ben Dulley, president of New Era Systems Services Ltd. goes further. Says Dulley, "Increasing demand for HARBOR and our commitment to provide the best possible service and support to our customers required this move. NESSE also provides the kind of direct feedback that will allow us to make changes to Harbor to meet the needs of European businesses. We are pleased to have this opportunity and to have been able to recruit such high calibre professionals."
New Era recently announced HARBOR Version 2.0 and NESSE will play a key role in the product launch. In addition to enhancing HARBOR's automatic backup and restore capabilities, Version 2.0 adds archival and distribution capabilities and extends the virus detection feature. Other enhancements to Harbor in this version include host initiation, exception reporting, support for additional UNIX and TCP/IP clients, and performance improvements.
In addition to HARBOR, New Era produces Multi-System Platform and Stand Alone Edit. HARBOR currently provides backup & recovery, archive & retrieve, and software/file distribution services to workstations (DOS,OS/2, Windows and UNIX) and file servers (UNIX, LAN Server, LAN Manager and Novell) using an MVS mainframe. HARBOR exploits client/server architechture, extending host security, storage and management services to distributed systems.
