A Lahm call for Bayern.

Byline: Tom Hopkinson EXCLUSIVE

A Lahm call for Bayern by Tom HopkinsonEXCLUSIVE PHILIPP LAHM has warned Arsenal that last season's Champions League final defeat by Chelsea has made Bayern Munich even hungrier.

Munich's hearts were broken in their own backyard last May when Didier Drogba's late strike forced extra-time and then penalties.

The Blues held their nerve to win a dramatic shoot-out and the Germans have had to live with the memories of that night ever since.

The Idisappointment which followed last season's showpiece has certainly not held Bayern back during this campaign - they are well clear of second-placed Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga and qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League by topping Group F. But now Europe's top knock-out competition really gets going and, as they prepare for Tuesday's trip to the Emirates, Lahm and Bayern are desperate to score some points against the English. Skipper Lahm (above) said: "The defeat against Chelsea in the final last year was a nightmare for us - that is the only way to describe it. But the only positive thing to come from it is that it has made us all even hungrier.

"We have used the loss as a positive, which says a lot about our character, and if we play at our best we know we have a great chance of making it through to the next round. "The Champions League is something we are desperate for as a team and we know that if we play at the level we are capable of then this can be our season. "If Arsenal are at their best this will be a very tough game, but we want to go back to Munich with a good result for the return game.

"We might be slight favourites, but at this stage of the competition that doesn't really mean much. With the amount of quality players that will be playing for both teams, these will be two great games for the Champions League."
