A&P Offering Re-Usable Designer Shopping Totes in All Banner Stores.

All Proceeds to Support Elizabeth Haub Foundation Conservation Efforts

MONTVALE, N.J. -- Shoppers at A&P and all of its affiliated banner stores can transport their groceries in high style, support the environment and contribute to worldwide conservation efforts - all by purchasing any or all of four new designer-quality shopping bags created and marketed by the Company.

Now available in all stores, these environmentally friendly and stylish carryalls can be purchased for 99 cents a piece. As sturdy as they are attractive, the bags can be re-used on subsequent shopping trips and as versatile totes, and also make beautiful and practical gift bags as the Holiday season approaches.

While directly helping to curb the use of disposable waste plastics and conserving paper resources, customer purchases will also advance the work of the Elizabeth Haub Foundation, to which a portion of sale proceeds will be donated.

Elizabeth Haub (1899-1977) was a philanthropist actively involved in the development and support of environmental law and policy in Europe. In her memory and to further her cause, the Elizabeth Haub Foundation was established in North America by her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Helga Haub of The Tengelmann Group, majority shareholder of A&P. Mrs. Haub is the mother of A&P Executive Chairman Christian Haub.

The Foundation's efforts over the years have been instrumental in landmark international environmental efforts as the World Charter for Nature of The United Nations; the Endangered Species Convention; the Algiers and Kuala Lumpur Conventions on the Protection of Nature and Natural Resources, and the Wetlands and Migratory Species Conventions.

"Our entire family takes great pride in Elizabeth Haub's commitment and achievements, as a true pioneer of international environmental protection and preservation," Mr. Haub said. "I hope our customers will appreciate and enjoy these beautiful and useful items, and in so doing support both our environment and the foundation's important work."
The Company said that direct contributions can be sent to:
